Entomopathogenic viruses update March 2015
At this moment production of the entomopathogenic virus LdMNPV virus is only possible in the host and therefor dependent on insect rearing. To realise a production of biocontrol agents against gypsy moth for a reasonable price BIOCOMES partners will develop an in vitro production method.
In the first year of the project Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) established a production Lymantria dispar cell line for the in vitro production of entomopathogenic viruses. Shaking rate, inoculum cell density and filling volume were tested. Results show that high cell densities were obtained which provides a basis for future large scale production of the virus.
