Disease control in forest nurseries (Final result)

Area of the forest land in Poland is almost 7,3 mln ha of which ca. 3,600 ha are forest nurseries. Damping-off – the most severe disease causing decline of seedlings of almost all tree species (i.e. beech, oak and scots pine) – was reported on 120 ha in 2016. The area of chemical treatments in forest nurseries decreases year by year due to the limited number of fungicides available and the implementation of the Integrated Plant Management according to Directive 2009/128/EC. The main objective in the BIOCOMES project was to test three BCAs, based on Trichoderma harzianum, Serratia plymuthica and Paenibacillus polymyxa, in protection of seedlings in forest nurseries against damping-off.
