Control of aphids with parasitoids

Aphids are among the most troublesome and widespread pests in fruit tree orchards. BIOCOMES researchers are looking for effective parasitoids with a good production potential for mass rearing. We have made a slide share presentation to share our research activities with you.

Parasitoids are the most efficient enemies of aphids. Parasitoid releases are being successfully used for aphid control in most protected crops, but the technique is not yet commonly used in open field crops. BIOCOMES is developing a biological control agent (BCA) to control aphids based on parasitoids in fruit orchards and a protocol for an optimized release strategy.

In the slide share presentation you can see how biological control based on parasitoids is working, how we are performing our research and what are the results so far:

Aphids are among the most troublesome and widespread pests in fruit tree orchards. Nowadays, their populations often reach damaging levels due to the fact that their natural enemy populations are disrupted by treatments against other pest(s).
